Students often ask, “What should I bring?” Students should bring anything you would normally bring on holiday. Clothes, toiletries, and the essentials are all nice to have packed so that when you arrive in Chiang Mai you won’t have to be in a panic to get situated.
Students will find that almost anything that you can get at home can be located in Chiang Mai. Although Chiang Mai has a small town feel, it’s still a large city and chances are if you want something you can find it.
The only essential is your passport, the rest is up to you. Some students chose to bring empty suitcases because of Thailand’s inexpensive cost relative to their home country. Students like to fill up suitcases with new wardrobes and bring home souvenirs. Other students come full strength with their suitcases filled to the brim because they prefer to have what they are already comfortable with. What you bring is entirely up to your wants and needs.
It is mandatory to bring training shorts (Muay Thai shorts, MMA shorts, or athletic shorts) and a comfortable shirt that isn’t collared (such as normal training t-shirt, rash guard, or tank top). While it is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged that students should also bring a groin cup protector and mouth guard. Although the training environment is very controlled, just like with any combat sport, accidents can happen.
Clothing that is not acceptable for training would be apparel that contains buttons or zippers. Button’s and zipper’s can tear the matting and perhaps cut your training partners. We try our hardest to keep it the safest training environment possible.
Students will be pleased to know that there are a number of available options for any length of stay. As with traveling to any country, your individual citizenship is a factor in what options are available for you. Check with the nearest Thai embassy to make sure.
30 DAYS or less
If you are thinking about staying for 30 days or less, the Thailand government will grant you a free stamp on arrival. The stamp will allow you to travel anywhere inside of Thailand for 30 days or less.

For a small fee of $35, students will be able to purchase a “Tourist Visa” from their nearest Thai embassy located in the country you are in. Each individual embassy is different so please check with your nearest one for details. With the tourist visa, students are able to stay in Thailand for a total of 90 days. After 60 days students will have to locate the immigration office (5 minutes from Team Quest Thailand) and extend their visa for the last 30 days.
Most embassies will issue at least 2 tourist visas (180 days) at a time. Some will even issue you 3 tourist visas at a time allowing you to stay for up to 270 days. Check with your nearest embassy if you are interested for staying for a period of time.
